Four pull out the stops for the Pro Allstars charities
With 1 week to go before the Pro Allstars game on Friday 28th July (7.30pm face-off) which opens #Cardiff17 UK Charity Allstars weekend, we can reveal the four goalies who will backstop the teams.
Stevie Lyle needs no introduction to UK ice hockey fans. From making his Cardiff Devils debut as a 14 year-old, Stevie has recently retired from a fantastic 24 year career which is littered with team and personal accolades. He has multiple League, Playoff and Cup Championship to his name and over 10 awards as Netminder of the year or league Allstar. As well as playing for a number of teams in the UK, he also saw spells in North America, Italy and France, additionally performing as Great Britain netminder in 15 tournaments – many as number 1 netminder.
Thomas ‘Mad-dog’ Murdy won the hearts of Cardiff Devils fans last year during their trophy-laden season. His outstanding performances during his 14 game cover for GB number 1 Ben Bowns allowed the Devils to continue their charge on the Elite League and Challenge Cup, instilling confidence in his team-mates. During one spell stepping in for the injured Bowns, Murdy won five games in a row including a 5-2 victory over 2nd place Sheffield Steelers, in Yorkshire, leading Devils Head Coach Andrew Lord to exclaim that the Devils “simply would not have won the league if it wasn’t for Tom Murdy”.
Another goalie who needs no introduction to Cardiff ice hockey fans is Joseph ‘Dead Puck’ Myers. Joe represented Cardiff Devils for 7 seasons, with Romford, Slough and Braehead Clan among his other teams. He has spent the last 2 seasons back in Cardiff winning back to back League Championships with Cardiff Fire.
The fourth announcement sees a return to South Wales for Bridgend-born, Basingstoke Bison goalie Dan Weller-Evans. Dan followed his junior hockey playing 4 years on the Isle of Wight and has spent the last 4 season with Basingstoke Bison, and was part of the EPL Championship winning side of 2015-16.
With the participation of these four goalies, it’s fair to say that the 2017 Pro Allstars game is in safe hands. Thanks to all for your efforts for this worthwhile event.
